During the time of Napoleon Bonaparte, soldiers used their jacket sleeves to wipe the snot from their runny noses. Seeking to eliminate the gross habit, Bonaparte demanded that buttons be incorporated on the sleeves mens jackets. Both removing the option of continuing the practice and enforcing soldiers to keep their attire neat and to " button up ". Amazing how even bad habits can inspire and evolve fashion. What would be of jackets without the buttons? And without buttons how would we ever know the joys of alternating cufflinks? To bad habits!
